About Ellen E. Grant
Ellen is a Servant Leader with an optimistic view of the world, its people, and possibilities.
She was born and raised in Buffalo, NY by parents, Herman and Verba, who moved from Georgetown, SC to provide a better life for their six children.
Ellen is a master of leadership, with over thirty-five years of experience in the health, academia, behavioral health, and not-for-profit sectors. In her roles as an executive coach, therapist, and lecturer, she has continued to coach, provide therapy, and mentor women in reaching their highest potential.
The Female Worker’s Fourteen Commandments for Powering Up Your Career (Lulu Press, 2020) is Ellen’s third book focused on assisting women in their leadership climb.
Her first book, “Managing in Black and White” (Partners Press, 1991) provided basic guidance for women of color who were assuming their first supervisory position. It has been used in a demonstration training project for ITT-Hartford, CT and as a text for the course, Empowerment Issues for Women of Color taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Ellen’s second book, Management for You: Leadership Can Be Color-Blind (iUniverse, 2016), is a guide to reinforcing confidence as a leader, at any level. This book was the basis of Executive Leadership Skills, a course Ellen taught at the Equal Opportunity Center at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Using short examples of employees acting inappropriately in the office, Ellen demonstrates how cultivating confidence is paramount to long-lasting success.
The Female Worker’s Fourteen Commandments for Powering Up Your Career (Lulu Press, 2020) is Ellen’s third book focused on assisting women in their leadership climb. Written for women who want to excel in the office and in life, it provides practical and proven advice for personal development and navigating the work world.
Ellen has written for Essence magazine and authored book chapters for BOOK TITLE HERE and for Go Tell Michelle (Barbara Nevergold and Peggy Bertram, PUBLISHER, DATE), a book of letters to Michelle Obama.
Ellen is an experienced lecturer, haven given speeches on topics in mental health and women and leadership to a wide variety of audiences. She has held several executive management positions, often the first woman or woman of color to do so. She also volunteers her expertise at local, state and national levels. Ellen has a PhD from SUNY Buffalo and an Honorary Doctorate from Medaille College. Ellen is the recipient of more than 18 awards for public service in the community and beyond.
Ellen has one adult son and is always on the hunt for exciting adventures and opportunities.
